Union Home Minister Amit Shah Sunday hoisted the national flag at the Parade Ground in Secunderabad on the occasion of Hyderabad Liberation Day (September 17). He reviewed the parade of the Armed forces and received a guard of honour.

• Speaking on the occasion, Shah said he was addressing the people of Telangana who had courageously fought against the Nizam.
• He said that they displayed patriotism and did not hesitate to make sacrifices but these have not been highlighted properly. Shah said the Telangana freedom struggle and sacrifices of the martyrs should be told to future generations and the entire world. 
• The Union home minister said the previous governments did not celebrate September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day owing to politics. He said leaders like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and K M Munshi played a major role in the liberation of Hyderabad.
