Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently applauded the Jal Jeevan Mission for achieving 11 crore tap water connections. The mission was announced by the PM in 2019.

• The main objective of the mission is to provide tap water connections to every household in India. And the target is to be achieved by 2024. For this mission, GoI allocated Rs 3.5 trillion. It is being implemented by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
• The Central and State governments are sharing the funds for the project. The ratio of their fund sharing is 50:50. In the northeastern states, it is 90:10. The North East state share 10% of the funds.
