Jammu and Kashmir Government has declared the whole Union Territory as a "Free Area" for purposes of the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009.

• The Notification has been issued after the Government on being satisfied that no cases of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) have been reported from any district of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
• The 2022 lumpy skin disease outbreak in India resulted in the death of over 97,000 cattle in three months between July and 23 September.
