The Maharashtra Budget 2025, presented by Finance Minister Ajit Pawar, outlines a comprehensive plan aimed at bolstering the state's economic growth, infrastructure, and employment landscape.

Key highlights 

Industrial Investment and Employment:

• Introduction of a new industrial policy targeting Rs. 40 lakh crore in investments over the next five years, with the goal of generating 50 lakh jobs. 
• At the World Economic Forum in Davos, the state secured Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs.15.72 lakh crore with 63 companies, expected to create 16 lakh jobs. 

Infrastructure Development:

• Proposal for Mumbai's third airport near Vadhavan Port, anticipated to be operational by 2030. 
• Completion of 85% of the Navi Mumbai International Airport, with domestic operations slated to commence next month. 
• Plans to develop 1,500 km of new roads and upgrade 7,000 km of existing roads to cemented roads. 

Economic Growth Initiatives:

• Ambition to expand Mumbai's economy from $140 billion to $300 billion by 2030, with a vision of reaching a $1.5 trillion economy by 2047. 
• Launch of the Maharashtra Technical Textile Mission to position the state as a global hub for technical textiles, benefiting sectors like automotive, healthcare, and defense. 
   

Export Promotion and SEZ Development:

• Implementation of the Maharashtra State Export Promotion Policy 2023, aiming to boost the state's contribution to national exports. 
• Establishment of 37 Special Economic Zones (SEZs), 8 Agricultural Export Zones, and 27 Export-Oriented Industrial Parks to enhance export infrastructure. 

Digital Transformation and Skill Development:

• Enactment of the Maharashtra Industries, Trade, and Investment Facilitation Act, integrating 141 services across 17 departments under the MAITRI online platform to streamline business processes. 
• Collaboration with Microsoft through the Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skill University to train 10,000 women in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and skill development. 

Maritime and Port Development:

• Introduction of the Maharashtra Maritime Development Policy 2023 to enhance port infrastructure, passenger water transport, and coastal tourism. 
• Development of the Vadhavan Port project in Palghar district, projected to be among the top 10 container-handling ports globally, with an investment of Rs.76,220 crore and a cargo capacity of 300 million metric tons. 
   

These initiatives underscore Maharashtra's commitment to reinforcing its position as a leading industrial and economic powerhouse in India.
