In a progressive move, the Ministry of Defence has taken a significant step towards promoting healthy food practices among the defence personnel.

• The ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to introduce a millet-based menu in the messes, canteens, and other food outlets of the armed forces.  
• The collaboration between the Ministry of Defence and FSSAI goes beyond menu inclusion. It ensures the training of food handlers and chefs in the messes, canteens, and other food outlets of the armed forces.
• This training aligns with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and emphasizes the importance of food safety and hygiene in catering to the dietary needs of the defence personnel.
