The Fundamental Duties were added to Constitution because:
Majority of the people wanted it.
The govt. felt that section of people was not fulfilling its obligation of respecting the established legal order.
The government felt this would ensure quicker progress of the country.
The Supreme Court emphasised the need of incorporation of these duties in the Constitution.
Fundamental duties are intended to serve as a constant reminder to every citizen that while the constitution specifically conferred on them certain Fundamental Rights, it also requires citizens to observe certain basic norms of democratic conduct and democratic behaviour because rights and duties are co-relative.
