Consider the following statements:
1. Near Field Communication Technology always consumes little power as compared to the Bluetooth technology.
2. Near Field Communication Technology (NFC) is a contactless communication that uses radio waves for communication.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
1 only
2 only
Both 1 and 2
Neither 1 nor 2
Near Field Communication: NFC is a contactless communication that uses radio waves for communication. It’s a new standard of wireless communication. It enables users to transmit radio frequency wave over a very short distance just about few centimeters. Since it’s a very short-range communication, power consumption is very negligible or no power consumption. It can transfer low amount of data between devices enabled with NFC. No need of pairing the devices, its ready to use at just a click or swipe. Hence, Statement 2 is correct.
Bluetooth technology: Bluetooth is a proprietary open wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances (using short wavelength radio transmissions in the ISM band from 2400-2480 MHz) from fixed and mobile devices, creating Personal Area Networks (PANs) with high levels of security. That is, Bluetooth is not a wide area network. NFC technology consumes little power when compared to standard Bluetooth technology. Only when NFC has to power a passive, unpowered source such as an NFC tag does it require more power than a Bluetooth transmission. Hence, statement 1 is not correct.
The close proximity that devices connected using NFC must be to each other actually proves useful in crowded locations to prevent interference caused when other devices are present and trying to communicate. Bluetooth may have trouble dealing with interference when trying to send signals between two devices, especially when several other devices are in close proximity
