Ajanta Caves Ajanta Caves are famous for their murals which are the finest surviving examples of Indian art, particularly painting.The 30 rock-cut caves at Ajanta have been excavated in a panoramic horse-shoe shaped bend of rock scarp nearly 76 meter in height overlooking a narrow stream known as Waghora. The cave houses some of the well preserved paintings of the Vakataka age that includes Vessantara Jataka (right of door), a huge and gigantic wheel representing the ‘Wheel of Life’; flying apsara (to left of door), subjugation of Nalagiri (a wild elephant) by Buddha at Rajagriha.
