Two typist of varying skills can do a job in 6 minutes if they work together. If the first typist typed alone for 4 minutes and then second typed for 6 minutes , they would be left with 1/5 of the whole work. How many minutes would it take the slower typist to complete the work alone ?

Solution: The first typist types for 4 minutes and second one for 6 minutes , the work left would be the work the first typist can do in 2 minutes. Thus the time taken by the first typist to do the work would be 10 minutes and his rate of work would be 10% per minute . Since both can do whole work in 6 minutes their combined efficiency = 100/6 = 16.66% > second typist = 6.66% so he would take = 100/6.66 = 15 minutes.

kindly read the statement , in this statement given that both will work for 6 minute and work will be finish , but if typist 1 work 2 minute less than 1/5th work will be left , so we can say that 15th work is done by typist 1 in 2 minutes => total time taken by typist 1 will be 10 minutes . And 10% work per minute then in 6 minute typist 1 will done 60% work in 6 minutes so we can say that 40% of total work will be finish by typist 2 in 6 minutes => 40% work done by typist 2 in = 6 minutes . 40/100 work of typist 2 = 6 minutes so , work (typist 2) = (6 x 100 ) /40 = 15 minutes .
