Term of panchayat is 5 years from the date of its appointment. Elections to panchayat shall be completed before the expiry of its duration (before expiration of 6 months from date of its dissolution), provided if the remainder term is <6 months, election will not be necessary.
Whereas, panchayat constituted on dissolution before the expiration of term shall continue only for the remainder of the period for which the dissolved panchayat would have continued.
