Direction: Study the following information and answer the given questions.
Six persons A, B, C, D, E and F are living in a building of six floors. Each of these persons likes different items Silk, Wool, Button, Cotton, Linen and Satin but not necessarily in the same order. The bottom floor of the building as numbered as 1 and the floor above it was numbered as 2 and so on. There are 2 floors between one who likes Silk and one who likes Satin. There were three floor between A and the one who likes Linen. A lives above the one who likes Linen. D is just below the one who likes Satin. C lives just above one who likes Linen. F likes Wool and there were 3 floors between F and B. There were 2 floor between E and the one who likes Button. The one who likes Button lives on floor no 1.
Who among the following likes Cotton?
F
E
A
B
C
- The one who likes Button lives on the first floor.
- There are two floors between the one who likes Silk and the one who likes Satin.
- C lives just above the one who likes Linen, so C doesn't like Linen.
- F likes Wool. B has to be three floors away from F.
- A lives above the one who likes Linen, meaning A cannot be on floors 1 or 2.
- D lives just below the one who likes Satin.
- There are two floors between E and the one who likes Button, meaning E cannot be on floor 1 or 3.
Let's piece this information together to find who likes Cotton:
- If the one who likes Button is on floor 1, B must be on floor 4 (just two floors away from E, who cannot be on floor 3).
- C, who is just above the one who likes Linen, must be on floor 4, 5, or 6. Since B is on floor 4, C must be on floor 5. Thus, the one who likes Linen (below C) should be on floor 4.
- D, just below the one who likes Satin, can only be on floor 2 or 5 (but since C is on floor 5, D must be on floor 2), and the one who likes Satin is on floor 3.
- F, likes Wool, and can only be on floor 1 or 4, both are occupied, so F must be on floor 6.
- Thus, A is on floor 3, and E is on floor 4.
Since A is on 3 and Satin is on 3, A must like Satin. Therefore, E likes Cotton, as A doesn't and all other positions for items are filled.
