- Present total age: \( 126 + 3 \times 7 = 147 \) years.

- Nine years ago, the average age of the wife and child was 36. Thus, their total age then was \( 36 \times 2 = 72 \) years.

- Present total age of wife and child: \( 72 + 2 \times 9 = 90 \) years.

- So, the husband's present age is: \( 147 - 90 = 57 \).
