There are 1200 student in a hostel. If the number of the students is increased by 1300,then the expenses of the mess increase
by Rs 5,000 per day, while the average expenditure per head diminishes by Rs 5. The original expenditure of the mess,per day,is:
Rs52,00
Rs45,00
Rs50,000
Rs55,000
Solution
Number of students = 1200 Formula used Average = sum of all observation/Number of observation Calculation Number of students increased = 1200 + 300 ⇒ 1500 Expenses increased = x + 5000 original expenditure = x average expenditure = x/1200 Increased expenditure = (x + 5000) Average expenditure = (x + 5000)/1500 According to question (x + 5000)/1500 = (x/1200) - 5 ⇒ 5 = (x/1200) - (x + 5000)/1500 ⇒ 5 = [5x - (4x-20000)]/6000 =5(x-20000)/6000 ⇒ 30,000 = x - 20000 ⇒ 50000 = x :: The original expenditure of the mess, per day, is Rs. 50,000.
