The ratio of two numbers is 4:5. If one is subtracted from the first number, and two is added to the second number, then the ratio becomes 3:4. What will be the ration when eight and four are, respectively, added to the first and second number ?
2:3
8:9
6:7
1:5
- We start with the ratio of two numbers being 4:5. Let the numbers be 4x and 5x.
- When 1 is subtracted from the first number (4x - 1), and 2 is added to the second number (5x + 2), the ratio becomes 3:4:
As per above condition
= (4x-1)/(5x+2)= 3/4
- Solving the above equation, we find the value of x=10.
- Once x is known, calculate the original numbers: 4x and 5x.
- Add 8 to the first number and 4 to the second: 4x+8 and 5x+4.
- Find the new ratio replacing x in above equation
=48/54
= 8/9
Hence option 2 is correct
