On a straight road, a bus is 30 km ahead of a car travelling in the same direction. After 3 hours, the car is 60 km ahead of the
bus. If the speed of the bus is 42 km/h, then find the speed of the car.
67 km/h
72 km/h
65 km/h
59 km/h
To find the speed of the car:
- The bus is initially 30 km ahead of the car.
- After 3 hours, the car is 60 km ahead of the bus.
- So, in those 3 hours, the car has covered 30 km to catch up and an additional 60 km to be ahead. Total distance = 90 km.
- The bus speed is 42 km/h. In 3 hours, the bus covers \(42 \times 3 = 126\) km.
- In those 3 hours, the car covers \(126 + 90 = 216\) km.
- Therefore, the car's speed is \(216 \div 3 = 72\) km/h.
