• The Union Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel recently announced that around six cultural heritage sites have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
• With this, the total number of sites in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Tentative list has increased to 48.
• The following six places have successfully entered the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

1. Ganga Ghats of Varanasi,
2. Temples of Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu,
3. Satpura Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh,
4. Maharashtra Military Architecture
5. Hire Benkal Megalithic site, Karnataka
6. Bhedaghat Lametaghat of Narmada Valley in Madhya Pradesh

• Corona patients in Jharkhand can book hospital beds online through ‘Amrit Vahini’ App launched by CM Hemant Soren.
• ‘Amrit Vahini’ App, the state government would be able to provide better facilities for the people infected with coronavirus.
• Though ‘Amrit Vahini’ App or website one can get all information about the availability of hospital beds and even book one for himself or anybody else online. The bed booked by the person will be kept reserved for him for the next two hours.

• Jharkhand has clinched the 1st Position among the 36 States & UTs of India based on the progress of implementation of Smart City projects, Rajasthan came second in the rankings. The rankings were released by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
• On the other hand, Delhi is at number 11 in the list of states and union territories and Bihar at number 27.

• Karnataka is ranked at the top in establishing health and wellness centres under Ayushman Bharat Programme to provide comprehensive primary health care in rural areas.
• With a score of 90 out of 95, the state ranks on top when it comes to the implementation of the project for the year 2020- 21 as per the health and family welfare department.

• As per a new report by S&P Global Market Intelligence, India is the second largest insurance-technology market in Asia-Pacific region.
• India accounts for 35% (USD 1.28 billion) of the total venture capital (USD 3.66 billion) attracted by the insurtech sector in the Asia Pacific region so far.
• China was the largest insurance-technology market accounting for around 43% of the total investment.
• As per the data, out of 335 private insurtech firms in the APAC region, 122 companies have disclosed their fundraise, amounting to a total of USD 3.66 billion.
• Out of these, around half of them are headquartered in India and China, and collectively attracted about 78% of the total investment.

• British-Indian Chemist Shankar Balasubramanian along with his colleague David Klenerman from the Cambridge University have been declared the winners of the 2020 Millennium Technology Prize.
• The duo have been recognised for development of ever faster and cheaper ways of revolutionary sequencing techniques, which means DNA can now be read in super-fast times.
• The Next-Generation DNA Sequencing technology (NGS) developed by the duo will help in fighting killer diseases such as Covid-19 or cancer, better understand crop diseases and enhance food production.
• The biennial prize, worth Euro 1 million, is given the Technology Academy Finland. The prize is considered as Finland’s version of the Nobel Science Prizes.

• The United Nations recognised International Tea Day is observed annually on May 21 by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to raise awareness of the deep cultural and economic significance of tea around the world and promote its importance in fighting hunger and poverty.
• The day was adopted by United Nations on December 21, 2019.
• In 2021, the world is celebrating second International Tea Day.

• In India, the National Anti Terrorism Day is observed on May 21 to commemorate the death anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi.
• The day is also observed to spread the message of peace, harmony, and humankind and to promote unity among the people.
• Rajiv Gandhi was India’s youngest Prime Minister. He was appointed as the sixth Prime Minister of the country and served the nation from 1984 to 1989.
• Mr Gandhi was assassinated on May 21, 1991 by a human bomb.

• The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is held every year on May 21.
• The day aims to celebrate the richness of the world’s cultures and highlight the significance of its diversity as an agent of inclusion and positive change for achieving peace and sustainable development.
• In 2001, UNESCO adopted the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity and in December 2002, the UN General Assembly declared May 21 to be the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

• The Reserve Bank of India will transfer a surplus of Rs 99,122 crore to the government for the nine months ended March 31, 2021.
• The RBI is transitioning to an April-March accounting year from FY22. 
• The surplus was decided on while holding the contingency risk buffer at 5.5%.
• The surplus transfer is the highest since 2018-19, when the central bank had transferred Rs 1.75 lakh crore, which included a one-time payout on account of a change in the RBI’s Economic Capital Framework. Under the new framework, the RBI is required to maintain a contingency risk buffer of 5.5-6.5% of its balance sheet. The central bank has chosen to maintain the lowest required buffer. 
• In FY21, the RBI would have earned income from a larger amount of open market operations. It would have also seen some benefit from a change in accounting treatment on sales of forex assets. Under the new rules, these sales get benchmarked to the weighted average cost of the reserves, which allows for a slightly higher profit to be realised.
