K.M. Deeksha executed a well-planned tactical race to upset 1500m National record holder Harmilan Bains for the gold medal in the National inter-state athletics championships at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, Odisha on Friday(16 June, 2023)

• Twenty-three-year-old Deeksha timed 4:06.07 to give her personal best and beat Harmilan by 2.43 seconds.
• She led a pack of four athletes, including Chanda (4:09.39) and Pooja (4:09.52), who breached the Asian Games qualifying mark.
