Direction: Read the given information and answer the following question:
A certain number of persons are sitting in a linear row facing north. Information about only a few persons is known. Nine persons sit between A and I. X sits at one of the ends of the row. One person sits between I and X. V sits exactly between A and I. Two persons sit between K and V. Four persons sit between K and Y. Y sits to the right of A. More than six persons sit between I and Y. The number of persons sitting between I and Y is two more than the number of persons who sits to the right of V.
Four of the following five letter-clusters are alike in a certain way and one is different. Pick the odd one out.
FHJM
QSUX
CEGJ
GIJM
LNPS
- We know a few things about the seating: X sits at one end, with only one person between X and I. Nine people sit between A and I, and V is in the middle of A and I.
- K sits two away from V, with four between K and Y. Y is to A’s right. More than six are between I and Y.
- The number of persons between I and Y is two more than those to the right of V.
Looking for the pattern in the letter clusters:
- 1. FHJM: Alternating +1, +2 increment pattern.
- 2. QSUX: Alternating +2, +2 increment pattern.
- 3. CEGJ: Alternating +2, +3 increment pattern.
- 4. GIJM: Alternating +2, +1 increment pattern.
- 5. LNPS: Alternating +2, +3 increment pattern.
The odd pattern is in GIJM, due to its alternating +2, +1 increment pattern, unlike others which follow different alternating step patterns.
Correct Answer: Option 4 - GIJM
