IUCN Green List is the first global standard of best practice for area-based conservation. It is a programme of certification for protected and conserved areas – national parks, natural World Heritage sites, community conserved areas, nature reserves etc. that are effectively managed and fairly governed. Its objective is to provide a global benchmark to assess whether protected and conserved areas are achieving successful conservation outcomes through effective and equitable governance and management.

The sites admitted to the IUCN Green List have distinguished themselves through exemplary management, fair governance, and a long-term commitment to successful conservation o Presently, 59 sites in 16 countries have made it to the list.
