Directions : Study the following information carefully and answer the questions given below:
Six boxes P, Q, R, S, T and U are placed in a stack one above other. Each contains different number of chocolates viz. 250, 190, 119, 175, 280 and 210.
Box P is placed immediately above box R. Three boxes placed between R and the box which contains 250 chocolates. Box which have 175 chocolates is just above the box which have 250 chocolates. One box placed between box T and the box which have 175 chocolates. U contains 210 chocolates. The box which contain 119 chocolates is placed below box U. Three boxes placed between box S and the box which have 119 chocolates. One box is placed between box Q and the box which have 190 chocolates.
How many boxes are placed between box Q and the box which have 119 chocolates?
one
two
three
four
none
Let’s break this down step by step:
- Let's jot down the boxes and chocolates: P, Q, R, S, T, U; chocolates: 119, 175, 190, 210, 250, 280.
- P is immediately above R.
- Three boxes are between R and the 250-chocolate box.
- Box with 175 chocolates is just above the 250-chocolate box.
- There’s one box between T and the 175-chocolate box.
- U has 210 chocolates.
- The 119-chocolate box is below U.
- Three boxes are between S and the 119-chocolate box.
- One box between Q and the 190-chocolate box.
Now, start fitting this together:
- Put P over R, so that’s one pair stacked.
- R is either 4th from top or 4th from bottom (given spacing clues), but keep that in mind.
- 175 is right above 250, and both these are in one pair too.
- U holds 210, and 119 is below U, so U can't be at the bottom.
- T is separated by one box from 175.
After working through all the clues (I did the placements):
- S
- U (210)
- Q
- P
- R (175)
- T (119)
Let’s check the original question:
How many boxes are between box Q and the box with 119 chocolates?
Q is third from the top, and 119 chocolates is at the bottom (T). So between Q (third from top) and T (last), there are exactly two boxes (P and R).
Option:2, two
Here’s the thing:
- Q is above T(119).
- There are exactly two boxes in between.
That’s what the clues add up to, and option 2 is the correct answer.
