Context: Recently, the Global Food Regulator’s Summit 2024 (GFRS 2024) is organised by India from 20th to 21st September 2024 alongside with World Food India 2024 event.
This summit provides a unique platform to food regulators of various nations for exchanging information on food product regulatory and safety requirements, with an emphasis on fostering cooperation between nations in the realm of food safety standards.
It is organised by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the aegis of the Union Health and Family Welfare ministry.
More than 70 countries are expected to participate in this summit to discuss and prepare strategy on key regulatory issues.
The key objectives of GFRS 2024 are to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and information about food product regulatory frameworks and safety requirements across various countries.
In addition, the summit aims to promote a common dialogue on critical aspects such as food safety, risk assessment, analytical competence, and capacity-building initiatives.
It will also engage a diverse range of stakeholders from the food value chain, including food manufacturers, processors, government officials, and non-governmental organizations, in discussions about the global landscape of food safety and regulatory compliance.
Enabling a Cohesive Network on Food Safety and Regulatory aspects.
Enabling effective understanding of compliance requirements and mutual exchange of best practices, experiences and success stories on food safety norms/regulations.
Explore opportunities to identify collaborative work areas to establish synergies among global regulators/organizations/agencies.
State Food Safety Index 2024 – Will be soon introduced by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
It assesses the food safety performance of States and Union Territories.
