Tropical evergreen forests occur in the regions near the equator and close to the tropics. These regions are hot and receive heavy rainfall throughout the year. As there is no particular dry season, the trees do not shed their leaves altogether. This is the reason they are called evergreen In India they are located in heavy rainfall areas of the Western Ghats and the island groups of Lakshadweep, Andaman, and Nicobar, upper parts of Assam, and Tamil Nadu coast. Some of the commercially important trees of this forest are ebony, mahogany, rosewood, rubber, and cinchona. Statement 1 is correct. Tropical deciduous forests are monsoon forests. Trees shed their leaves in the dry season to conserve water. These are the most widespread forests of India. On the basis of the availability of water, these forests are further divided into moist and dry deciduous. The hardwood trees found in these forests are sal, teak, neem, and shisham. Babul tree is found in the Thorn forest where water availability is very less. Statement 2 is not correct.
