Context: The juice jacking scam has come to light where fraudsters con people with the help of charging ports in public places to steal data.

It involves malware addition directly into user's mobile device.

Juice jacking is a theoretical type of compromise of devices like smartphones and tablets which use the same cable for charging and data transfer, typically a USB cable. The goal of the attack is to either install malware on the device, or to surreptitiously copy potentially sensitive data.

RBI had also issued caution regarding juice jacking.

How it's done?

1. Scammers set up charging stations that appear legitimate and convenient. These rigged stations then collect the users' data. 
2. When an unsuspecting person plugs their device into the compromised charging point, the rigged station harvests sensitive data from the connected device. 
3. Some scams even involve malware injection into the user's device while it charges giving the scammer control over the victim's phone or tablet.
