Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in India to implement an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based real-time forest alert system, marking a significant advancement in forest conservation efforts.

This pioneering initiative leverages satellite imagery, machine learning, and mobile-based field reporting to detect and address illegal activities such as land encroachment, deforestation, and unauthorized land-use changes.

Key Points

• Real-Time Monitoring: The system utilizes Google Earth Engine to analyze multi-temporal satellite data, identifying anomalies like construction, crop cultivation, and vegetation loss. Alerts are generated and sent to field staff for immediate verification and action. 
• Comprehensive Data Collection: Each alert includes over 20 data points, such as GPS-tagged photos, voice notes, and survey comments, enabling accurate on-ground assessment. 
• Pilot Implementation: The system is currently being tested in five sensitive forest divisions: Shivpuri, Guna, Vidisha, Burhanpur, and Khandwa, known for frequent incidents of illegal encroachment and tree felling.

This AI-driven approach enhances the forest department's ability to proactively manage and protect forest resources, ensuring timely intervention and reducing the impact of illegal activities.
