The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) has introduced the 'Satellite Bus as a Service' (SBaaS) program, inviting private Indian firms to design and develop modular satellite bus platforms.

This initiative aims to enhance private sector participation in satellite development, reduce dependence on imports, and accelerate access to space for emerging payload developers.

Highlights

• IN-SPACe has issued an Announcement of Opportunity (AO) inviting Indian non-governmental entities (NGEs) to design and develop small satellite bus systems capable of supporting multiple payloads. ?
• The SBaaS initiative will be implemented in two phases:

Phase I: Up to four NGEs will be shortlisted based on their technical capabilities to develop modular, multi-mission satellite bus systems.

Phase II: IN-SPACe will support up to two hosted payload missions to demonstrate the utility of these platforms. ?

• The program aims to provide a standardized, modular bus platform, offering a cost-effective solution for in-orbit validation of diverse payloads, thereby accelerating the development cycle for emerging technologies. ?
