Jharkhand has initiated India’s maiden mining tourism project in partnership with Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation (JTDC).
The pilot at North Urimari coal mine offers guided tours via Rajrappa and Patratu routes, blending operational mining views with cultural and natural attractions—all under strict safety protocols.
Key Points:
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by JTDC and CCL to launch India's first mining tourism initiative, supported by CM Hemant Soren and Tourism Minister Sudivya Kumar.
The pilot scheme features guided tours at North Urimari (Birsa) open-cast coal mine, Ramgarh district, operating twice weekly with groups of 10–20 tourists .
Two curated routes are available:
Rajrappa Route (Rs.2,800 + GST): Includes Chinnamastika Temple and Patratu Valley.
Patratu Route (Rs.2,500 + GST): Includes Paryatan Vihar and mine visit. Packages include lunch & guided insights into mining operations and safety protocols.
Three tourism circuits are planned: Eco-Mining Circuit-1 & 2 and a Religious-Mining Circuit, which link industrial heritage with ecology and spirituality.
The project aims to promote alternative tourism, generate local employment, raise awareness of mining technology and environmental practices, and highlight Jharkhand’s industrial legacy.
