=> Bhogeswar Baruah (born on 3 September 1940) is an Indian former athlete and coach.
=> He was one of the first Assamese to win gold at an international event, winning a medal at the 1966 Asian Games.
=> He was the winner of the gold medal in an 800-metre running event of the 1966 Asian Games.
=> Bhogeswar Baruah's birthday is celebrated on 3 September every year in Assam, called "Abhiruchi Sports Day" in his honor.
Bhogeswar Baruah National Sports Awards:
=> Newly instituted awards presented in Guwahati-– First Recipients (2025).
=> Organized by Assam Olympic Association (AOA) in honour of Bhogeswar Baruah.
=> Awards will be conferred annually in six categories: Best Sportsperson, Emerging Player, Lifetime Achievement (National & Assam levels).
National Awardees 2025:
1. Best Sportsperson (National): Manu Bhaker (Olympic medallist, Shooting).
