India and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) have signed a Letter of Intent to supply fortified rice from Food Corporation of India stocks for global humanitarian operations. The initiative highlights India’s growing role in tackling global food insecurity under the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (“the world is one family”).

Key Points:

• India will provide up to 200,000 metric tonnes of fortified rice to WFP over the next five years.
• The rice will be sourced from Food Corporation of India warehouses for global relief operations.
• The agreement builds on discussions held during a WFP Executive Board side event in Rome (February 2025).
• Alongside rice supply, collaborations include Annapurti grain ATMs, smart warehouses, Jan Poshan Kendras, Flospans, and supply chain improvements.
