In-Principle approval has been accorded by the government of India for five new sites for locating nuclear power plants in the future.
At present, there are 22 reactors that are operational in the country with a total capacity of 6,780 Mega Watt. In January 2021, one reactor KAPP-3 that generates 700 Mega Watt has been connected to the grid. Also, 10 reactors are in various stages of construction at present and they will be adding a total capacity of 8,000 Mega Watt after their completion.
