The Tata Trusts recently released the India Justice Report 2022, which ranks the police forces of states across India. The report provides insights into the current state of the country’s law enforcement agencies, highlighting strengths and weaknesses across various parameters.

Report Highlights

As of January 2022, the report found that there were 22.1% overall vacancies in police forces across the country.
Among large and mid-size states, West Bengal had the worst performance in terms of constable vacancies. The state’s police force is grappling with a shortage of personnel, with a vacancy rate of 57.6% in constable positions.
Bihar had the highest percentage of police officer vacancies, standing at a staggering 76.6%.
In terms of SC constables against its quota, Karnataka had the highest percentage among large and mid-sized states. Haryana was the worst performer in this category, failing to meet its quota for SC constables.
