The students of the country have been allowed to pursue two degrees simultaneously by the University Grants Commission. From the academic session of 2022-23, the students can start applying for these dual degree programmes. Both the degrees can be pursued either from different universities or from the same university.
This initiative has been introduced to eliminate the separations between curricular and extra-curricular, arts and sciences, and vocational and academic streams. This new scheme will allow an individual to pursue more than one specialised area of interest.
The universities can decide whether they want to offer the two-degree scheme or not. The admission related eligibility criteria will also be decided by the universities. Universities offering this programme need to get approval from the statutory bodies of the institutions.
The students can mix streams based on their interests. The students can choose courses from Social Sciences, Sciences, Humanities, Arts, and other disciplines.
