• Neo-Bengal School is the first organized movement in modernity of Indian art with a basic motto of search for an indigenous identity. It originated in Bengal but spread through out India.The beginning of the movement may be traced in the year 1897, when Abindranath Tagore (1871-1951) painted his ‘Radha-Krishna’ or ‘Krishna Lila’ series of paintings through assimilation of medieval manuscript illustration style of paintings of Indian (Lucknow column) and Western origin (Irish Melodies).
