'A' alone can do a piece of work in 10 days and 'B' alone in 15 days. 'A' and 'B' undertook to do it for Rs42,000. With the help of 'C',

- Together, 'A' and 'B's combined efficiency = 1/10 + 1/15 = 3/30 + 2/30 = 5/30 = 1/6 of the work per day.

- With 'C's help, the work is completed in 5 days. So, their combined efficiency = 1/5 of the work per day.

- Thus, 'C's efficiency is (1/5 - 1/6) of the work per day = 1/30 of the work per day.

- 'A', 'B', and 'C' finished the work together and earned Rs 42,000.

- The earnings ratio is based on their efficiencies: 'A:B:C' = (1/10):(1/15):(1/30) = 3:2:1.

- 'B's share = (2/6) * 42,000 = 14,000.
