India is playing a pivotal role in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) on both global and regional fronts. Notably, India has spearheaded initiatives like establishing the international Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
Representing the Government of India, Shri Rajendra Singh, Member & HoD of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), assumed the Chair of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) for 2024-25, taking over from the People's Republic of China in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday, July 25, 2024.
ADPC is an autonomous international organization dedicated to disaster risk reduction and climate resilience in Asia and the Pacific. Founding members include India and eight neighboring countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
India also chaired the 5th Board of Trustee (BoT) meeting of ADPC held on July 25, 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand.
