Servants of India Society was founded on 12 June 1905 by Gopal Krishna Gokhale to build a dedicated group of people for social service and reforms. The founding of this brotherhood was the outcome of Gokhale's convictions that if the masses were to be liberated to function as active members of free India, they must have a band of selfless and intelligent workers who would dedicate their lives to the service of the nation. These workers must take the vow of renunciation, give up all ideas of selfishness, pride, fame and be one with their work and duty. Statement 1 is incorrect. Gopal Krishna Gokhale (1866–1915), a liberal leader of the Indian National Congress, founded the Servants of India Society in 1905 with the help of M.G. Ranade. Gopal Krishna Gokhale’s three friends - Natesh Appaji Dravid, Gopal Krishna Deodhar and Anant Vinayak Patwardhan also supported. Statement 2 is correct. The aim of the society was to train national missionaries for the service of India to prepare a cadre of selfless workers who were to devote their lives to the cause of the country in a religious spirit. The society worked in the fields of promotion of education, removal of untouchability, promotion of sanitation and healthcare etc. Statement 3 is correct. From 1911, the society also published its newsletter titled “Hitavada” in English to project the views of the society from Nagpur. The society still exists and has its headquarters in Pune.
