Man and Biosphere Programme :

Launched in 1971, UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) is an Intergovernmental Scienti fi c Programme that aims to establish a scienti fi c basis for the improvement of relationships between people and their environments.
The UNESCO has introduced the designation ‘Biosphere Reserve’ for natural areas to minimize con fl ict between development and conservation. BRs are nominated by national government which meet a minimal set of criteria and adhere to minimal set of conditions for inclusion in the world network of Biosphere reserves under the Man and Biosphere Reserve Programme of UNESCO. Its World Network of Biosphere Reserves currently counts 669 sites in 120 countries all over the world, including 20 transboundary sites
