The Supreme Court of India has formed a National Task Force (NTF) to avoid student suicides in institutions of higher education.
A bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan also ordered Delhi Police to register First Information Reports (FIRs) on the complaints of the families of two students who committed suicide at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi in 2023.
Former Supreme Court judge Justice S. Ravindra Bhat will chair the NTF, and there will be ex-officio members from secretaries of the ministries of higher education, social justice and empowerment, legal affairs, and women and child development.
