IIT Kanpur is ready with an artificial heart that would be of great help to people with acute cardiac problems. IIT Kanpur Director, Abhay Karandikar, said that the trial on animals would begin next year.
He said heart transplants will now be simple. In critical patients, artificial hearts can be placed.
This artificial heart was made by cardiologists from across the country and IIT Kanpur.
After the study is successful, the transplant on humans could be done in the next two years.
India imports 80 percent of devices and implants from abroad, only 20 percent of devices and implants are manufactured in India.
