Directions: The following table shows the number of girls students and average number of boys and girls students studying in five different institutions A, B, C, D and E.
Name of the institutions Number of girls Average number of boys and girls
A 80 110
B 90 140
C 60 80
D 60 96
E 40 48
Find the difference between the average number of boys studying in institution A,B,C, D and E and the average number of girls studying in the same institution.
64.8
56.3
78.7
57.6
96.8
- Calculate the total number of students for each institution using the average formula:
- \( \text{Total Students} = \text{Average} \times 2 \)
- For institution A, Total = \(110 \times 2\) = 220
- For institution B, Total = \(140 \times 2\) = 280
- For institution C, Total = \(80 \times 2\) = 160
- For institution D, Total = \(96 \times 2\) = 192
- For institution E, Total = \(48 \times 2\) = 96
- Calculate the number of boys for each institution:
- Boys in A = 220 - 80 = 140
- Boys in B = 280 - 90 = 190
- Boys in C = 160 - 60 = 100
- Boys in D = 192 - 60 = 132
- Boys in E = 96 - 40 = 56
- Calculate the average number of boys:
- Total Boys = 140 + 190 + 100 + 132 + 56 = 618
- Average Boys = \(618 / 5 = 123.6\)
- Calculate the average number of girls:
- Total Girls = 80 + 90 + 60 + 60 + 40 = 330
- Average Girls = \(330 / 5 = 66\)
- Difference between average boys and girls:
- Difference = 123.6 - 66 = 57.6
Correct Answer: Option 4 - 57.6
