Key Highlights:
Players of the Year: Savita, the Indian women's team goalkeeper, and Harmanpreet Singh, the men's team captain, were honored with the prestigious Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year 2024 in their respective categories.
Commemoration of 1975 World Cup Heroes: Members of the 1975 World Cup-winning team were bestowed with the Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award, each receiving a cash prize of Rs. 50 lakh, in recognition of their monumental contribution to Indian hockey.
Record Prize Pool: The ceremony featured a record prize pool of Rs. 12 crore, the highest in the history of the Hockey India Annual Awards, underscoring the organization's commitment to honoring excellence in the sport.
Olympic Bronze Medal Felicitation: The Indian Men's Hockey Team, which secured a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, was felicitated with scarves and a cash award of Rs. 15 lakh each. Alternate players received Rs. 5 lakh each, and support staff were awarded Rs.7.5 lakh each, acknowledging their significant contributions.
State Associations Recognized: Eight state associations, including Hockey Haryana, Hockey Jharkhand, and Hockey Association of Odisha, were honored for their outstanding performances at the 14th Hockey India National Championships 2024, each receiving a cheque of Rs.10 lakh.
Grassroots Development: The Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu was awarded Best Member Unit of the Year 2024 for its pioneering efforts in grassroots development through the Tamil Nadu School Hockey League, India's first-ever statewide school hockey league, involving over 5,500 players across 306 schools.
Individual Achievements: Several players were recognized for their individual accomplishments:
Harmanpreet Singh received Rs.10 lakh for being named FIH Men's Player of the Year 2024 and an additional Rs.1 lakh for the Play of the Tournament at the Men's Asian Champions Trophy 2024.
PR Sreejesh was awarded Rs. 5 lakh for being named FIH Men's Goalkeeper of the Year 2024.
Deepika received Rs. 1 lakh each for finishing as the Leading Goal Scorer and Best Player of the Tournament at the Bihar Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2024, and another Rs. 1 lakh for being the Leading Goal Scorer at the Junior Women's Asia Cup 2024.
