The Indian Coast Guard has launched its second indigenously built Pollution Control Vessel (PCV), Samudra Prachet, at Goa Shipyard Limited.

Designed for oil spill response and maritime pollution control, the vessel marks a significant boost to India's coastal security and environmental protection capabilities under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Key Points:

• Samudra Prachet was launched on 23 July 2025 at Goa Shipyard Limited in Vasco-da-Gama in the presence of senior Indian Coast Guard officials.
• The vessel is 114.5 meters long, displaces 4,170 tonnes, and will be operated by 14 officers and 115 sailors.
• It is equipped with advanced pollution response features such as side-sweeping arms, oil slick detection radar, and oil-water separation systems.
• The ship can recover oil of all viscosities at a speed of 300 tonnes per hour and is designed to operate across India’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
• With 72% indigenous components, the vessel is built under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission and supports India’s self-reliant maritime defence goals.
