The Ministry of Jal Shakti has launched C-FLOOD, India’s first unified inundation forecasting platform, offering two-day advance flood warnings down to the village level. Developed collaboratively by C-DAC, CWC, and NRSC under the National Supercomputing Mission, the tool supports disaster preparedness across Mahanadi, Godavari, and Tapi basins.
Key Points:
Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil inaugurated C-FLOOD on July 2, 2025, at Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi, as a major step in flood management reform.
The web-based platform integrates advanced 2-D hydrodynamic models and high-performance computing to generate inundation maps and water-level alerts two days ahead.
It currently covers the Mahanadi, Godavari, and Tapi river basins, with plans to expand to other major catchments.
The platform consolidates inputs from:
C-DAC (Pune): modelling via National Supercomputing Mission
CWC: national-level hydrological data
NRSC: remote sensing insights under National Hydrology Project
Minister Patil directed agencies to raise public awareness, integrate C-FLOOD into the National Disaster Management Portal, and improve accuracy via satellite validation and ground-truthing.
By delivering timely village-tier forecasts, C-FLOOD strengthens early warning, supports evacuation decisions, and enhances flood resilience in vulnerable communities.
