The present population of a village is 15280. If the number of males increases by 25% and the number of females increases by 15%, then the population will become 18428. The difference between present population of males and females in the village is:
1840
920
2760
1380
Correct option is 1: 1840
Explanation
The present population of the village is 15280 Male population increases by 25% i.e. 1/4 Female population increases by 15% i.e. 3/20 Population become after increment 18428 Concept used: The Elimination Method for solving linear equations Calculation: Let the present male & female population be M & F respectively. According to the question, M + F = 15280 ....(1) Then, After increment male population = M + M x 1/4 = 5M/4 After increment Female population = F + F x 3/20 = 23F/20 According to the question, (5M/4)+(23F/20) = 18428 ...(2) Now, solving (1) & (2), we get M = 8560 & F = 6720. Now, the difference between the present male & female population = M - F = 8560 - 6720 = 1840. -The difference between the present population of males and females in the village is 1840.
