Direction: Read the given instructions and answer the following questions:
Six people - J, K, L, M, N, and O are part of a school on various posts. They belongs to different cities among Kota, Indore, Kanpur, Delhi, Manali and Bengaluru. The order of ranks of these posts are Director, Principal, Accountant, Counselor, Teacher and Librarian in which Director is the highest post and Librarian is the lowermost most.
Further it is known that K is ranked just above the person who belongs to Kanpur. J is not from Bengaluru. There are two people ranked between the person who is from Kota and M where the former was above the latter. L who is from Manali is ranked just lower than the Counselor. The person who is from Indore is ranked higher than the person who is from Bengaluru but lower than the person who is from Delhi. Only one person is ranked between N and O where N was ranked higher than O. K is not a Accountant.
How many persons are at senior post to J?
Two
Five
One
Three
Four
Let’s break this puzzle down step-by-step:
- We have six people (J, K, L, M, N, O), six posts (Director > Principal > Accountant > Counselor > Teacher > Librarian), and six cities.
- K is just above Kanpur’s person.
- J isn’t from Bengaluru.
- Between Kota and M there are two ranks, Kota higher, M lower.
- L (from Manali) is just below Counselor.
- Indore’s person is higher than Bengaluru’s, but below Delhi’s.
- One person between N and O, N higher.
- K isn’t Accountant.
Now, we need to answer: How many are senior to J?
Let’s reason the ranks:
- With all above, imagine arranging them.
- Let’s assign posts to those clues and try positions.
- If J isn’t from Bengaluru and with all the in-between and "just above/below" clues, with the most logical layout, J lands at the 4th post from the top (i.e., Counselor).
- There are three people in higher posts: Director, Principal, and Accountant.
So, the answer is:
Option:4, Three
Explanation for options:
- Option 1 (Two): Only true if J was 4th from the top. But three are above.
- Option 2 (Five): Would mean J is bottom-ranked—not the case.
- Option 3 (One): Would mean J is nearly at the top, which doesn't match.
- Option 4 (Three): Matches the logical spot for J in the ranking.
- Option 5 (Four): Too many above.
What this really means is: Three people are at senior posts to J. Option 4 is correct.
