Direction: Study the following information carefully and answer the given questions. There are ten people seated in two parallel rows with five people in each row such that equal distance between the adjacent persons and each person in one row faces the person in another row. In row 1, U, W, X, Y and Z are sitting and all facing south. In row 2, F, G, H, J and K are sitting and faces north. Two persons sitting between G and F who sits at one of the extreme ends. W sits opposite to G. Immediate neighbour of W is Z. Z does not sit on ends. U does not face F. One person sits between Y and Z. J is not an neighbour of G. Only one person sits between K and H. H faces Y. X does not sit to the left of Z.
What is the position of U with respect to Y?
Second to the right
Third to the left
Immediate left
Third to the right
Fourth to the right
Let’s break it down, step by step:
- There are two rows, people in Row 1 face south (towards Row 2), Row 2 faces north (towards Row 1).
- F is at one end; two people between G and F.
- W sits opposite G.
- Z is right next to W and doesn’t sit at the end.
- U doesn’t face F.
- There's one person between Y and Z.
- J isn't a neighbor of G.
- Only one person sits between K and H, and H faces Y.
- X does not sit to the left of Z.
Now, to solve position:
- Place W opposite G. Z is an immediate neighbor of W (so Z/W are together), and Z is not at the end, so W also not at the end.
- If Z isn't on an end, and there's one between Y and Z, that fixes some spots.
- The H-Y clue locks in those two—so H opposite Y.
- K and H have exactly one between them.
When you build this out:
Row 1 (South): U X Z W Y
Row 2 (North): F K G J H
- From this, U is second to the right of Y.
- That is, from Y, moving right: first W, then Z, next is X, and finally U.
- But because the row faces south, right-to-left is Y, W, Z, X, U.
So, U is fourth to the right of Y.
Options:
1. Second to the right
2. Third to the left
3. Immediate left
4. Third to the right
5. Fourth to the right
Your answer is option 4, but looking at the arrangement, option 5 is correct.
