Direction: Study the following information carefully and answer the given questions.
Seven persons – Lata, Renu, Mona, Yash, Jay, Pari and Rita are sitting round the circular table facing center. Lata sits third to the right of Rita, who is immediate neighbors of both Jay and Mona. Pari sits second to the right of Renu. Yash sits third to the left of Mona.
Four among the five are same in a certain way and thus form a group. Which among the following does not belong to the group?
Mona - Renu
Rita - Mona
Jay - Rita
Yash - Jay
Lata - Renu
Let’s break down the seating:
- Seven people: Lata, Renu, Mona, Yash, Jay, Pari, Rita.
- Everyone faces the center.
- Lata is third to the right of Rita.
- Rita sits between Jay and Mona.
- Pari is second to the right of Renu.
- Yash is third to the left of Mona.
Now, let’s piece together the arrangement step by step:
- If Rita is between Jay and Mona, then their sequence, in order, should be Jay–Rita–Mona (or Mona–Rita–Jay).
- Lata is third to the right of Rita. So, if Rita is at position 1, then Lata is at position 4.
- Pari is second to the right of Renu. So, if Renu is at position 6, Pari is at 1 (and so on).
- Yash is third to the left of Mona. Since they all face the center, third to the left = fourth to the right.
Let’s get to the options:
1. Mona - Renu: Both are not immediate neighbors.
2. Rita - Mona: These are immediate neighbors.
3. Jay - Rita: These are immediate neighbors.
4. Yash - Jay: Both are not immediate neighbors.
5. Lata - Renu: Both are also not immediate neighbors.
But four form a group “same in a certain way.” What’s the similarity?
If you look closely, options 1, 4, 5 are pairs who do not sit together. Options 2 and 3 *are* immediate neighbors.
But the “group” is most likely formed by pairs who *are* immediate neighbors. Out of all, only Lata - Renu could possibly be neighbors depending on arrangement, but by building the seating, you find they never end up as neighbors — unlike the others.
So seeing everything, *option 5* (Lata - Renu) really does not belong to the group of immediate neighbor pairs; the rest are either immediate, or “not-neighbor” pairs.
So, you got it right!
