On a tree, there are some parrots and some pigeons in the ratio of 7 : 9, respectively. After an hour, 8 parrots fly away, and 6 pigeons and 10 sparrows come and sit on the tree. The ratio of the parrots and the pigeons on the tree now is 1 : 4. What is the ratio of the parrots and the sparrows that are now on the tree?

Given:
Ratio of parrots and pigeons on tree = 7:9
Number of parrots flew after an hour = 8
Number of pigeons and sparrows sat on the tree = 6 and 10
New ratio of parrots and pigeons on tree = 1:4
Calculation:
Let the number of parrots initially be 7x and pigeons be 9x.
After an hour, Number of parrots = 7x - 8
After an hour, Number of pigeons = 9x + 6
New Ratio=1
=(7x-8 )/ ( 9x+6) = 1/4
28x - 32=9x+6
⇒28x-9x= 6 + 32 = 38
Number of parrots on tree now = 7 x 2-8=14-8=6
Number of sparrows on tree = 10
Ratio of number of parrots to number of sparrows
==3:5
Hence, the ratio of number of parrots to the number of sparrows on tree is 3:5.
