Which enzyme is present in saliva?
Amylase
Rennin
Trypsin
Pepsin
Here’s the thing, when we’re talking about enzymes in saliva, this is what you need to know:
- Option 1: Amylase
This is the key player in your saliva. Specifically, it’s called salivary amylase or ptyalin. It starts breaking down starches right in your mouth.
- Option 2: Rennin
This one isn’t found in saliva. Rennin works mainly in the stomach of young mammals, helping them digest milk by curdling it.
- Option 3: Trypsin
You’ll find trypsin in the small intestine, not your mouth. It’s great at breaking down proteins, but saliva is not its territory.
- Option 4: Pepsin
This is your stomach’s specialty. Like trypsin, pepsin digests proteins, but it needs the acidic environment of your stomach. Again, not in saliva.
