Rajnath Singh felicitates Super-100 winners of Veer Gatha 4.0

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan felicitated the Super-100 winners of Veer Gatha 4.0 in New Delhi on Saturday (25 January 2025).

According to an official release, among the 100 winners, 66 are girls from different parts of the country. 

During the felicitation ceremony, each winner was presented with a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a medal, and a certificate. 

These Super-100 winners are among the approximately 10,000 special guests who will be witnessing the Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path on January 26.

Veer Gatha 4.0

The fourth edition of Project ‘Veer Gatha 4.0’, a joint initiative by the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Education as part of Republic Day celebrations, has garnered an incredible nationwide response.  This year, approximately 1.76 crore students from around 2.31 lakh schools participated in the competition.

Launched on September 05, 2024, Project Veer Gatha 4.0 presented a variety of thought-provoking topics for essay and paragraph writing. Students had the opportunity to write about their chosen role models, particularly focusing on Gallantry Award recipients.

They were also encouraged to explore the inspiring lives of freedom fighters such as Rani Laxmibai, the 1857 First War of Independence, and the significant role of Tribal Uprisings in India’s Freedom Struggle.

Indian short film ‘Anuja’ nominted for Oscars 2025

 Anuja, a short film set in New Delhi by Guneet Monga bagged a nomination in the Live Action Short category at Oscars 2025.

D Gukesh wins first round at Tata Steel Chess Tournament

GM Gukesh Dommaraju has won his first game as world champion despite staring defeat in the face against GM Anish Giri in round one of the 2025 Tata Steel Chess Masters.

Keymer escaped a lost position and then exploited a blunder by GM Leon Luke Mendonca, while Harikrishna played a perfect game to grind down GM Arjun Erigaisi in a position with two rooks for a queen.

Jammu and Kashmir's government began the process of geo-tagging in its bid to preserve heritage Chinar trees in Kashmir .

  • Authorities in Kashmir are geo-tagging the culturally significant Chinar trees for creating a comprehensive database for their management and better conservation.
  • This is being done under the Jammu and Kashmir government’s "Digital Tree Aadhaar" programme, led by Forest Research Institute (FRI) of the territory’s forest department. 
  • The campaign involves the use of Geographical Information System (GIS). Under the process, QR-based digital plate is affixed to each surveyed Chinar tree using a specialised spring-enabled metal. 
  • Each tree is given a unique ID like Aadhaar specifying the year the tree is surveyed, the district it is located and a serial number for easy identification. 
  • These QR codes record information such as geographical location, heath, age and growing patterns to help forest conservationists in tracking changing patterns and addressing arising risks.

Haryana Government Launches ‘Samman Sanjeevani’ App on National Girl Child Day

Haryana Women and Child Development Minister,Shruti Choudhry, launched the 'Samman Sanjeevani' app of ‘Mahila Evam Kishori Samman Yojana' on the occasion of National Girl Child Day 2025.

  • The Minister said that under the  'Mahila Evam Kishori Samman Yojna', sanitary napkins are distributed to BPL women and girls aged 10 to 45 years.
  • These benefits are delivered through Anganwadi centers and schools.
  • Facilities being provided under the scheme will be tracked via the app so that the beneficiaries continue to get the benefits of the scheme timely.
  • The app has been developed to ensure timely delivery of these services. It will collect data on all beneficiaries and update monthly benefits.

UP govt approves new aerospace and defence policy, reforms in FDI

The Uttar Pradesh government approved a new Aerospace and Defence Unit policy to attract Rs 50,000 crore of investments and generate jobs for 1 lakh people.

  • The state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Prayagraj also approved an FDI policy among 10 key proposals aimed at accelerating the state's development, an official release said.
  • Among these, the groundbreaking Aerospace and Defence Unit and Employment Promotion Policy 2024 was introduced to position UP as a leader in the sector.
  • The policy sets an ambitious target of attracting Rs 50,000 crore in investments, with the potential to generate direct employment for 1 lakh youth across the state.

Madhya PRadesh Bans Liquor Sale at select religious places

The Madhya Pradesh government will close liquor vends in 17 ‘holy towns’ of the state, chief minister Mohan Yadav announced on Friday ( 24 January 2025).

The 17 towns listed by Mohan Yadav include Ujjain, his hometown.

As per statement by the CM Mohan Yadav liquor vends will be shut down are Datia, Panna, Mandla, Multai, Mandsaur, Maihar, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, Orchha, Chitrakoot, Amarkantak, Salkanpur, Barman Kala, Linga, Kundalpur, Bandakpur and Barmankhurd.

"The Madhya Pradesh government will ban the sale of liquor at 17 religious places. Liquor will be banned wherever Lord Krishna and Lord Ram have set their foot in Madhya Pradesh" Said the minister.

Maharashtra govt forms 16-member panel for AI policy 2025
