PayU Payments has appointed five members to its board of directors. The include former managing director (MD) of Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (HDFC) Renu Sud Karnad and former global chief executive officer of PayU group Laurent Le Moal.

A book written by Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai was released by Archbishop of Changanacherry, Kerala, H G Mar Joseph Perumthottam. 

This book titled “Basic Structure and Republic” was released in Panaji.

In his speech on the occasion, governor Pillai said that ‘Ramayana’ and ‘Mahabharata’ have taught us that where there is “dharma” there is victory. 

National Science Day is celebrated every year on February 28 and the theme for this year is 'Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat'. 

• ‘National Science Day is celebrated to commemorate the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ and raise awareness about the importance of science and its role in improving the lives of people.

• The National Science Day was first observed on the day when Indian Physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman (C V Raman) announced the discovery of the “Raman Effect" in 1928, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930.
• He was the first Indian to receive this prestigious award in the field of science.

The World Gold Council has appointed Sachin Jain as its new CEO, India, who will take up the role from March 2024.

• Sachin joins from De Beers where he has held several senior roles for the past 13 years. As Managing Director of De Beers India, he has led the De Beers Forevermark business in India and the Middle East.
• Sachin brings with him deep understanding of the Indian consumer and jewellery market, from strategic thinking to practical execution.
• He has over two decades of rich experience and understanding of the Indian consumer. Previously, Sachin has held senior positions for De Beers, Lladro, Swatch Group and Benetton.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for a new launch complex of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) at Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district.

• The Rs 986 crore facility is set to accommodate 24 launches per year.
• PM Modi also dedicated several projects worth more than Rs 17,300 crore, saying Tamil Nadu is writing a new chapter of progress in Thoothukudi.

South Korea’s fertility rate – already the lowest in the world – has fallen yet again, amid fears of “national extinction”, an ongoing debate about how to reverse the trend, and how the country’s work culture and gender relations could be to blame.

• Data from Statistics Korea showed that there had been an 8-percent decline in the country’s fertility rate in 2023 compared with the previous year.
• Experts have said that the country’s population of 51 million may halve by 2100 based on current rates.
• South Korea’s government has been spending billions of dollars to try and reverse the trend, as the population continues to shrink.
• The average number of babies a South Korean woman is expected to give birth to during her life fell to 0.72 from 0.78 in 2022, and previous projections estimate that this will fall even further, to 0.68 in 2024.
• These levels are far below the 2.1 children needed to maintain a country’s population at its current level.

• The report highlights upskilling employees, aligning learning programs with business goals, and creating a culture of learning as the top three focus areas for India's learning and development (L&D) professionals in 2024.
• Soft skills take centre stage, with nine in ten L&D professionals prioritising human skills.

Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma has resigned from his position as part-time non-executive chairman and board member of Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL), almost a month after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) initiated regulatory action against it.

One97 Communications Limited, the parent company of Paytm, has informed that PPBL has reconstituted its board, adding that Sharma’s resignation will “enable this transition”.

PPBL has also reconstituted its Board of Directors with the appointment of Ex-Central Bank of India Chairman Srinivasan Sridhar, retired IAS officer Debendranath Sarangi, former Executive Director of Bank of Baroda Ashok Kumar Garg, and former IAS officer Rajni Sekhri Sibal, One 97 Communications Limited said in a regulatory filing on Monday.
